William Godwin (3 March 1756 – 7 April 1836) was an English journalist, political philosopher and novelist. He is considered one of the first exponents of utilitarianism and the first modern proponent of anarchism. William Godwin, Jr., English journalist. He was the only son of William Godwin, philosopher and novelist, and the half-brother of Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein. Godwin was a reporter for the Morning Chronicle from 1823 until his death in 1832. His novel Transfusion was published in 1835, with a memoir prefixed by his father.
